Interview Prep

Interview prep is not memorizing answers; it is preparing real stories that can survive follow-ups. This skill breaks down competencies, prepares six to eight STAR stories and runs a pressure mock.

Workflow

  1. 1

    Break down the competency model

Extract five or six competencies from the JD and interview reports, such as cross-team influence, data analysis and conflict handling. Prepare one primary and one backup story per competency.

  2. 2

    Write STAR stories

Use one to three sentences each for situation, task, action and result, emphasizing your personal actions and trade-offs rather than the team’s. Quantify results where possible and include what you learned from failures.

  3. 3

    Mock follow-ups and pressure

Have AI play a strict interviewer and repeatedly ask why you chose that approach, what you would change and where the data came from. Record or note where you freeze and fill the evidence gaps.

  4. 4

    Prepare questions and salary negotiation

Prepare three questions that reveal team quality and a salary statement grounded in market ranges. Avoid naming a fixed number first; give a range and rationale.

FAQ

Can I admit I do not know?

Yes, but explain how you would fill the gap. Honesty plus a path forward beats a fabricated answer that cannot survive follow-ups.

Is AI mock interviewing useful?

It helps with structure and follow-ups but cannot fully simulate human emotion and room pressure. Combine it with a human mock interview.
