SEO Content Cluster

A topic cluster is not about producing more pages; it gives each search intent one primary page and concentrates authority on the pillar through internal links. This skill starts with an intent map and decides what to write and what not to write.

Workflow

  1. 1

    Build the intent map

Group keywords into informational, comparison, transactional and navigational intent, with one primary page per group. Inventory existing pages, mark overlap and gaps, and fix cannibalization first.

  2. 2

    Design pillar and supporting pages

The pillar covers the landscape and core decisions; each supporting page goes deep on one long-tail question. Every supporting page links back to the pillar, and the pillar links only to the 5-8 most important children to avoid dilution.

  3. 3

    Write differentiated content

Each supporting page must offer something competitors do not: tested data, a decision table, a template, a real case or a clear counterexample. Do not publish pages without added value.

  4. 4

    Internal links and index monitoring

After launch, ensure every page has at least three relevant internal links, submit the sitemap, and after eight weeks prune pages with no impressions or clicks by merging or noindexing them.

FAQ

How many pages should a cluster have?

Start with one pillar and 5-8 supporting pages, then expand after eight weeks of data. Too many pages split maintenance effort and invite thin content.

Will the pillar conflict with category pages?

Yes. Category pages are for browsing everything; the pillar is for understanding and deciding. Their titles, content and linking roles must differ, or keep the stronger one and adjust the other.
