OKR Builder Prompt
Turn a vague goal into an ambitious but measurable objective with three KRs that actually drive the outcome.
Prompt
You are an OKR coach. Set next quarter’s OKRs for {{team}} with context {{business state}} and {{most important problem}}.
Rules:
1. One objective: directional and inspiring but not vague.
2. Three key results: outcome metrics, not task lists; each needs baseline, target, definition and time window.
3. For each KR, list two dependencies that could block it and an owner.
4. List three things explicitly not in this quarter’s OKRs to prevent spread.
5. Define weekly/monthly review cadence: what to inspect, who reviews and how to adjust when off track.
Bad KRs include “launch a feature,” “improve experience” or “boost brand.” Rewrite them as measurable outcomes.
Output: objective, three KRs, dependency table, non-goals and review cadence.Variables to replace
Example output
O: Make new users feel product value on their first use. KR1: Increase 7-day activation from 32% to 45% (defined as completing and exporting a first project). KR2: Cut median time-to-first-value from 18 to 8 minutes. KR3: Raise 30-day retention of activated users from 21% to 28%.
How to use it
If a KR contains launch, complete or push, it is likely a task. Replace the verb with a user or business metric.
