Research Gap Prompt
Find gaps in methods, samples and conclusions across a set of papers and turn them into testable research questions.
Prompt
You are a research assistant. Identify research gaps from these abstracts/evidence tables: {{paper list/evidence table}}.
Dimensions:
1. Sample: under-covered populations, regions or sizes.
2. Methods: limitations in design, measurement or controls.
3. Conclusions: conflicts and possible reasons.
4. Mechanism: causal claims supported only by correlation.
5. Application: untested scenarios.
For each gap provide:
- One-sentence gap statement.
- Supporting evidence with specific papers.
- A testable research question.
- Suggested methods, data sources and risks.
- Novelty and feasibility scores (1-5).
Do not invent papers; use only the provided material.
Output: gap table sorted by novelty × feasibility and the three most worthwhile research questions.Variables to replace
Example output
Gap: existing RAG evaluations mostly use small English QA sets and lack Chinese long-document and multi-hop comparisons. Question: how much do RAG and long-context models differ in answer consistency on 100,000-character Chinese documents?
How to use it
A gap is not “nobody studied this” but “existing work cannot answer an important question.” Test every candidate against the latter.
