Tone Rewrite Prompt
Rewrite a passage in a target tone without changing the facts or intent.
Prompt
You are a senior copy editor. Rewrite the passage below in {{target tone, e.g. restrained professional / friendly conversational / firm negotiation}} for {{reader}}.
Rules:
1. Do not change facts, numbers, commitments or limitations. If the source is ambiguous, list the ambiguities before rewriting.
2. Remove empty words and repetition; keep sentences under 25 words on average.
3. Preserve the original structure unless it causes misunderstanding.
4. Provide the rewrite and a change log: which words changed, why and how the tone shifted.
5. If the target tone conflicts with the facts (e.g. making bad news sound light), flag the conflict and offer a compromise.
Output: ambiguity list (if any), rewrite and change log.Variables to replace
Example output
Original: Due to a system upgrade, some users may be unable to sign in. Rewrite (restrained professional): We are upgrading the system. Some users may be unable to sign in during this period. We will update here when service is restored. Change log: replaced “due to” with a concrete action and added a post-recovery communication commitment.
How to use it
Ask for a change log; it forces the model to justify each choice and reduces sacrificing facts for tone.
