Watermarking
Embedding detectable markers in AI-generated text, images or audio for provenance.
In plain language
Watermarks can be visible or invisible. Text watermarks embed statistical patterns by adjusting token sampling; image watermarks hide in frequency or pixel perturbations. The goal is to identify AI-generated content, but watermarks are not removal-proof: rewriting, compression and cropping can break them. They suit platform labeling and provenance, not standalone legal proof. Evaluate false-positive rate, robustness and impact on content quality.
Example
An image platform embeds an invisible watermark that survives recompression but may fail after screenshots or redrawing.
